June 2011 Records

Our temperatures hit 95 degrees on June 8th and 9th. We had a few cool fronts arrive during the month but mostly the temperatures were in the 80's, Ken Harris found a Common Eider at Waryas Park, an extremely rare bird for our area.

Canada Goose: Well reported and seen on most FT’s plus reports of young by JA/KJ, KCF, KH, BAM, ESp.
Mute Swan: 10/1, 4/3,23-24, 5/6, 6/10 3/12 (pr w/3 cygnets) Fisherman’s Pk Wapp Lk. KH.
Wood Duck: 1/4 Locust Grove, 3/9 Reese Pk. KH; 8/12 CIES WLS; 1/26 Rhinebeck MP; 1/28 Ogilvie's Pd, Cruger’s MHB/ D/BFerguson; 2/30 IBM Pok JY.
Mallard: 18 reported + 6 rpts. e-Bird of 1-8 by KCF, KH, ESp & 2 FT’s.
*Common Eider: 1m/13 Waryas Pk. Pok.-extremely rare inland (male floating in river, wedge shape head, black cap and on sides and tail & white back) KH.  Only other report was October 1979.
Common Merganser: 1f/1,3/6,2/12 Fisherman’s Pk. Wapp Lk KH; 2/12 CIES WLS.
