 Friendly Catbird!

by Peggy Fasciani

My brother-in-law, John, who lives in the Town of Poughkeepsie, related this incredible story to me.

During the last week in May they were building a balcony on the front of his home. At about 10:00 a.m. on the first day of work while on their coffee break, a catbird decided to have breakfast with them. There was a little make-shift table for their coffee and box of donuts. They were in for a huge surprise when a catbird landed on the box and helped himself to a donut. When the men sat in the same area for their lunch, the catbird returned. John held broken crumbs in the palm of his hand and the bird landed on his thumb and proceeded to eat from his hand.

After the men returned to work, the bird stood about 3' away while the men worked with electric saws. At one point, while John ran the skill saw, he was astonished when the bird sat at the end of the plank that was being cut. The catbird was around John all day and even followed him into his garage several times.

What is the consensus of the Club on this little scenario? My thoughts are that this dear little bird must have been hand-raised. John said he knows of none living nearby that would have done that.
