Wilson's Phalarope
Putnam County, August 2002

8/24 ...A WILSON'S PHALAROPE was found by Bill Wallace in Putnam County, at the reservoir near the intersection of I-84 and I-684, on August 21. This bird was seen at the same location where the Baird's Sandpiper was found the previous day (see below). This bird was last seen on August 24.

Directions:  To reach this location, from the interchange of I-684/I-84 in Putnam County, proceed north on Rte 22. when you see the East Branch Resevoir Dam on the right, look for the next road on the right, old Milltown Road. Turn right on to Old Milltown Road and rpoceed down this paved and then dirt road to the causeway area, where the now empty reservoir may be found on both sides of the road. The Baird's was found on the right on 8/20; the Wilson's Phalarope was
on the left, near a flock of Mallards, on 8/21. This is a very busy road during commuter time, with endless traffic heading
towards nearby Connecticut. So use extreme caution when walking on the road.
