7/16/06...From
Nick Bonomo with several subsequent observers: Milford,
Milford Point -- adult RED-NECKED STINT in worn alternate
plumage. The bird was first found around 2:45pm, seen
on the bar to the right with many Semipalmated Sandpipers.
The tide covered the bar after that, driving away all
the birds. It was relocated - after 5:00 PM if memory
serves - on the back (east) side of the large bar on
the left, where it was seen by many more birders and
seen quite well at times. It was still present just
before 8pm, but not continously seen.
7/17/06...From
Frank Gallo: Milford Point, Milford -- alternate plumaged Red-necked
Stint is still being seen at Milford Point. It was on the "Piping
Plover Bar" to the east of the Beach Platform from 7-8
am. It then flew into the marsh with the rest of the shorebirds
(1000+ Semisandpipers). It reappeared on the beach side around
3:30 PM on the bar just to the west of the beach platform (where
it was first found). The bar flooded over around 4:05 and the
birds flushed to the Piping Plover Bar. At high tide, the best
place to check is the Piping Plover Bar to the east of the
platform (towards Charles Island). The plover and least tern
nesting areas are fenced off - Please stay WELL below the high
tide line and as far away from the tern/plover colony, as possible.
Excessive disturbance to the colony could cause further restriction
to this area!!
