Northern Gannet
Poughkeepsie, October 1986
Photos by Jim and Mary Key

Immature Northern Gannet, photographed Oct. 31, 1986 at NYSDEC office in New Paltz by James Key.  It was first seen Oct. 27, 1986 at the Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery pond.  It had an injured wing, and was captured on Oct. 28 by Jon Fells. He turned it over to NYSDEC who took it to a veterinarian. It was healthy and apparently soon released on the New Jersey shore. This was the second record for Dutchess County (the first was by Jim & Mary Key on October 7, 1964), but the first confirmed by a photograph. The record was accepted by NYSARC.
