Lapland Longspur
Croton Point, Westchester, October 2006; Rhinebeck, December 2006

10/22/06...From Allan Wells via NYSBIRDS-L: The highlight of the October 22 Rockland Audubon Society (RAS) Field Trip to Croton Point Park, led by Carol Weiss, "were two Lapland Longspurs located on the landfill cap. Both birds were seen well by all 11 RAS participants. After about 5 minutes of active feeding, both took flight, circled the area several times and were then seen to land approximately 75 yards away. We did not attempt to re-locate them." Photographs are posted on the Rockland Audubon Society website (click on the News link).

December 2006...Mona Payton saw 2 Lapland Longspurs at Southlands Farm in Rhinebeck. Southlands is a horse farm south of the village of Rhinebeck on Rt. 9. The birds were seen on the lawn by the pond behind the barns. If you go there to look for them, please go to the office first to tell them you are there looking for the Longspurs.
