Brewster's Warbler
Vassar Farm, Poughkeepsie, May 2004

5/29/02...The GOLDEN-WINGED WARBLER was back again at Vassar Farms in the same spot as last year, found by Carol and Ken Fredericks during the May census on May 11. However, the bird has not been relocated. The bird's location on May 11 was in the bushes on the right half way back from the first gate to the second pond. The bluebird boxes are across the road in the fields. Carol said it was singing a Blue-winged Warbler song and recommended looking for it in the top of the tall light colored trees where the road starts to slope and you can see the Education building with Bluebird boxes across the road in the field. It was on the west side of the dirt road... on your right as you walk in from the barns. If you see this bird please let us know by calling Barbara Michelin, or you can .

5/29/02...Another GOLDEN-WINGED WARBLER was reported seen west of New Paltz by Paul Sutera this week. If you want to try for this bird, follow these directions: Drive through New Paltz west to the New Paltz-Rosendale border, near the DEC fishing and boat launch parking spot. Look for the "Town of Rosendale" sign. This is several miles from the beginning of Springtown Rd on Route 299 in New Paltz. The bird crosses the road from time to time but you can also bird the rail trail across the street from the DEC parking lot. Their driveway, across the street, is a right-of-way to the rail trail. It has a sign "Slow Children" in the driveway. The bird is singing only the Blue-Winged song. It's been there 8 days. This is about a 25 minute drive from Poughkeepsie. Further North on the rail trail a Blue-Winged is singing a Golden-Winged song.
If you see this bird please let us know by calling Barbara Michelin, or you can .

5/26/04...Barb Michelin also found 2 Blue-winged Warblers chasing a Brewster's Warbler.   Says Barb, "This may be an offspring from the Golden-winged Warbler found at Vassar Farms on May 12-20, 2001 and May 11 & Aug. 11, 2002."
