12/24...A GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GOOSE was found by Barbara Mansell at Drake Lake (also known as Upper Kay's Pond or Horton Lake), on Netherwood Road at the end of Gretna Road, during the Christmas Bird Count at 7:30am on 12/21 but was not present at 1pm on the same day. Liz Martens, who photographed the bird, posted a note about the sighting on our Member Forum. Liz returned to look for the bird at 7:30am on 12/22 but did not find it. Alan Peterson reported that the bird was present at 3pm on December 24, when he also saw a Snow Goose with the flock. Since geese travel fairly widely during the day, check any flocks you see.

Directions:

From Hyde Park: Take Crum Elbow Road (CR 41) east from Rte. 9G in Hyde Park. After the intersection with Quaker Lane, Crum Elbow Road becomes Netherwood Road. Watch for the lake on the left with Gretna Road on the right.

From Taconic Parkway: Take Salt Point Turnpike (CR 115) west past the village of Salt Point. Watch for Netherwood Road (CR 41) going off to the right. Take Netherwood Road for 2 or 3 miles and watch for Gretna Rd on left (lake on right).
