Glossy Ibis
Gretna Road, Pleasant Valley, March 2003

A GLOSSY IBIS was found by Carena Pooth at a farm pond on Gretna Road in Pleasant Valley on March 25.   This was the first sighting of the species in Dutchess County since 1991.

The pond is on the Plankenhorn Farm on the west side of Gretna Road just north of the intersection with Melville Road.  A relay was initiated and Ken and Carol Fredericks also observed the bird around 3pm the same day. Chet Vincent looked for the bird on March 26, but no one reported seeing it after March 25.
