A BAIRD'S
SANDPIPER was reported in Putnam County,
at the reservoir near the intersection of I-84 and
I-684, on August 20.
The bird was not seen when birders went back
to check the same evening and the next morning, but
Ed Spaeth
reported that he saw a bird on August
21 that
he suspects "was the Baird's Sandpiper, along
with a Killdeer and other smaller peeps feeding in
the mudflats on the south side." A
Baird's Sandpiper was last seen at this location August
24. Here
is the original note about the Baird's that was posted
to the NYSBIRDS-L mailing list by John Askildsen
around 5pm on 8/20:
Bill
Wallace just called me to advise that he has found a Baird's
Sandpiper in the now dried-up, East Branch Reservoir bed,
this afternoon on Milltown Road in Brewster, Putnam County. Bill
reports that the Baird's is among a fair assortment of other
shorebirds on the south side of Milltown Road.
Directions:To
reach this location take Rte 22 north from its intersection
with I-684 and I-84. Look for Milltown Road a short way up
Rte 22 on the right. Take the right onto Milltown Road and
proceed to the location where the empty reservoir maybe found
on both sides of this dirt road. Look on the south side for
the Baird's Sandpiper.
